Description: The main character in the story; Yoh is a cheerful
and easy-going person. Yoh seems a little lazy, but he's actually from a historical Japanese shaman family. He's engaged to
marry Kyoyama Anna; his personal trainer even though they are both in junior high school.
Despite his cheerful outlook, Yoh is actually quite lonely. From what I found out from reading the manga,
Yoh doesn't have any friends in Izumo. His only friends there are Anna, whom he had met when he was ten and the Asakura
family's disciple; Tamamura Tamao.
Yoh's childhood was also not an easy one. Because of his powers, he was often ostracised
by his peers, and called a 'demon child'. It was not until he moved to Tokyo that he had any friends, and having
not had any friends for so long, he treasures these people's friendships above all other things.

Description: Amidamaru is Yoh's Guardian Spirit. He died in Japan's Muromachi
era (1334 - 1467). His best friend is the swordsmith; Mosuke. Apparently, Amidamaru's lord told him to kill Mosuke so that
the sword that he had (Harusame or Rain of Spring) would have no equal to it. Amidamaru told Mosuke about it
but they were both spied upon and were killed.

Description: Mosuke was Amidamaru's best friend when Amidamaru and Mosuke were still
alive. He was the maker of Amidamaru's sword; Harusame and haunted the sword in the musuem when he was killed.
Amidamaru's master had loved Harusame very much and didn't want a better sword and ordered
Amidamaru to kill Mosuke. Of course, Amidamaru, being the type of person that he was refused and made a pact with
Mosuke to meet again so that Mosuke could make the best Harusame for Amidamaru.
However, Mosuke died before he could meet Amidamaru and haunted the sword, convinced that Amidamaru's
death was his fault until Yoh came along and helped Mosuke to repair Harusame and gave it to Amidamaru.

Description: Manta is a student who often carries a huge
book called the Manjien Dictionary with him. He has the ability to see ghosts but can't use their powers like Yoh
and Anna.
One thing about Manta that stood out most in both the anime and manga
is his height! Although he is thirteen, he looks very much like three or four years old!
Name: Kyoyama Anna

Description: Anna is Yoh's fiancee. She is a type of Japanese shaman known as an Itako;
a type of shaman who has the ability to summoun spirits from the other world. Her teacher is Yoh's grandmother; Asakura
Kino.
She moved to Tokyo after Yoh was injured in a fight with Tao Ren and commenced her Special Training
Programme. She is determined to make Yoh the Shaman King so that she can become the First Lady of the shaman
world.
Despite her outlook; she cares for Yoh very much and even cried for him when Tokagero entered his body
in episode eleven.
Name: Tamamura Tamao
Age: 11
Birth Date: 17 June 1988

Description: Tamao is a disciple of the Asakura family and is in love with Yoh even
though she knew that Yoh and Anna are engaged.
She's extremely quiet and shy and is very loyal to the Asakura family. She was found by Yoh's father
when she was a little girl and helped to clean the house and do the cooking and washing.

Description: Tao Ren is a member of the
evil Tao family who is after Yoh. His father forced him to become the Shaman King to revive the Tao family and for
some reason, send Ren to kill Yoh. He nearly succeeded
in killing Yoh in around episode three.
However, Ryu rescued Yoh in the nick of time, otherwise
Yoh's arm will probably be cut off. Later on, he became Yoh's friend and helped him in the Shaman Fight.

Description: Ryu seems to be a bit of bully in the earlier episodes. He was a high
school student who is looking for a "best place" for him and his buddies.
Concidentally, he picked the cemetery as his "best place" in episode one where Yoh happens
to hang out at with his "friends". Ryu ran into Manta at the cemetery and beat the crap out of him.
Amidamaru used Yoh's body and got his revenge on Ryu for breaking his headstone. Ryu and Yoh became
friends later on and Ryu even helped Yoh in the Shaman Fight when he became a shaman.

Description: Horo Horo is one of Yoh's friends who helped him in the Shaman Fight.
Yoh met Horo Horo when he fainted near his house in around episode nine.
Horo Horo is a member of the Ainu tribe in Hokkaido who lives very close to nature. His dream is to
fill a land full of coltsfoot for the Koro Pokkuru. His Guardian Spirit is Kororo of the Koro Pokkuru.

Description: Pirika is Horo Horo's younger sister and trains him like how Anna trains
Yoh. She loves Horo Horo very much and follows him to the Shaman Fight.
She gave Yoh a real headache when she yells at him when Yoh defeated Horo Horo in the Shaman Fight
Preliminaries. Later on, she became friends with Anna and Yoh and helped the boys in their fight in the Shaman Fight.

Description: Lyzerg is born in London and happens to be a dowser. He entered the Shaman
Fight because of his desire to kill Hao for revenge.
Lyzerg was only about six when Hao killed his parents. Bent on revenge, Lyzerg goes about looking for
people who are powerful to help him on his way.
He met Yoh and his friends when they arrived in America and started attacking Horo Horo, Ren and Ryu.
Lyzerg doesn't hold to Yoh's beliefs and joined the X-Laws who he believe understands that violence has to be fight with violence.
His Guardian Spirit is the fairy; Morphine.
Name: Choco Love

Description: Choco Love is a shaman that Yoh and the others met on their way to Patch
Village. His dream is to be the world's greatest comedian and to spread the seeds of laughter and joy everywhere.
Choco Love's greatest tactic is the "Ayers Rock" technique which he used against Peyote, one
of Hao's comrades. Although Choco Love's jokes is not very funny, the reaction that came from Ren and Horo Horo are.

Description: Faust was a German doctor who was very much in love with his wife; Eliza.
When they opened a clinic in Germany, robbers came and shot Eliza in the head.
Devastated by her death, Faust entered the Shaman Fight to be the Shaman King to revive
her. During his fight with Yoh, he took Manta hostage to make Yoh angry enough to lose his senses.
When Yoh's Furyoku was drained, Faust tried to kill him. He almost succeeded, but Ren stepped
in and saves Yoh with his "Super Golden Slash Dance". Faust is the descendant of Faust I,
a great and terrible black necromancer who sold his soul to Satan in exchange for knowledge.
Name: Eliza Faust
Birth Date: 29 June 1963
Birth Place: Germany
Description: Eliza is Faust's
beloved wife and loves him very much. She was shot in the head when robbers attacked her in the clinic in Germany.
With help from Anna and Yoh, Eliza is now Faust's Guardian Spirit.
