EPISODE ONE: THE BOY WHO DANCES WITH GHOSTS
A scene will appear when a short boy named Oyamada Manta leaves cram school absorbed in a book; the Manjien Dictionary. He has a feeling that someone is calling him from the cemetery. When he walked past the Funbari Cemetery, he met a boy who asked him to watch the stars with everyone. Manta is confused - who is everyone? He only sees himself and the boy. The boy says everyone and a bunch of spirits appear around him. Manta runs off terrified.

The next day at school, Manta tries telling some of his fellow classmates about his experience, but no one believes him. They teases him and laugh. Suddenly, the boy from the cemetery shows up in class. The teacher introduces him as Asakura Yoh, a new transfer student from Izumo. Manta flips out, trying to explain that he’s the kid from the cemetery. When Manta confronts Yoh about the cemetery thing, he denies ever seeing Manta. The rest of the class laughs at Manta’s persistence.

After school, Manta follows Yoh, but loses him after observing him watching the river for several hours. Manta decides to go back to the cemetery to find Yoh. A violent man, Ryu of the Wooden Sword, demands that his goons make sure the kid who usually comes by the cemetery stay off his place. As he is lecturing his guys, they stare back at him in terror. Ryu has just stepped on the grave of Amidamaru, the famous legend about a samurai from 600 years ago who killed a bunch of people. By standing on his tombstone, Ryu might just be cursed with his spirit. Ryu is unimpressed and strikes the tombstone with his sword yelling ‘Nattou’ (Japanese fermented soybeans).

Manta witnesses the event and knocks over a can trying to leave quietly. Ryu accuses him of trespassing on their Best Place, and they decide to teach Manta a lesson. The next day, Manta shows up at school completely beaten up. His classmates can’t believe Ryu beat him up. Manta declares that he’s seen spirits, but still no one will believe him. Yoh comes up behind him and affirms the concept. After school, Yoh decides to take him back to the cemetery. He thinks that Manta must be a good person because evil people can’t see spirits. At the cemetery, Yoh ties Manta to a tree and tells him to watch. Yoh decides to face Ryu that night, channeling a spirit. He tells Manta to watch him closely, as he is a Shaman, and then calls Amidamaru. With Amidamaru, he takes out the men attacking him. Ryu attacks, and Yoh defeats him as well. Manta is intrigued.

The next day, Yoh and Manta repairs Amidamaru's tombstone, (though they didn't do a very neat job).

EPISODE TWO: WAITING SAMURAI
Manta is reading a book on shamans to Yoh. It says that shamans have the ability to put themselves into a trance and communicate with God, Spirits, and other spiritual beings. They are able to borrow the strength of the spirits to heal diseases or manipulate governments. Manta still doesn’t understand shamans. Yoh tells him that as a shaman, he has no interest in politics or religion. His purpose for coming to Tokyo was to find a main spirit, as a shaman’s level is mostly determined by the strength of the spirits that aid him. Once he has a powerful spirit on his side, he will become a full fledged Shaman.

Amidamaru is the first spirit Yoh considers asking to be his main spirit. Amidamaru refuses, telling him he is waiting for someone. Manta tells Yoh of the legend of Amidamaru – he is known as the devil because he disobeyed his master and killed all the people that came after him.

Manta takes Yoh to the museum where Amidamaru’s sword; Harusame, is on display. There, the museum curator shows them the 600 year old sword and tells of how it is known to shed tears every night. Yoh and Manta decide to wait and see this phenomenon. When the sword starts to cry, Yoh realizes that it is not the sword, but a man sitting above crying over the sword. He introduces himself as Mosuke, a swordsmith and explains that he was the one who killed Amidamaru. He was also Amidamaru's best friend.

Six hundred years ago, Amidamaru and Mosuke were best friends. Mosuke had forged a fine sword; Harusame and the two displayed it to a man of great influence in the government who offered them jobs. However, now owning Mosuke’s sword, their master plotted to kill him so there would only be one sword as fine as his. Not wanting to betray his friend, Amidamaru told him about their master's plan and told him to leave. Mosuke asked Amidamaru to meet him the next night to give him a sword. Unfortunately, someone overheard the conversation, and the next night, they informed Amidamaru that Mosuke wouldn’t be joining him. In a rage, Amidamaru killed all the men to escape. Because of that, Amidamaru became known as the devil.

Mosuke is filled with grief that he could not forge a fine sword for Amidamaru, that he couldn’t meet up with him, and that he ultimately led his friend to death. Yoh offers Mosuke his body to make a sword for Amidamaru. With Mosuke’s spirit inside him, they create a sword. Yoh then delivers it to Amidamaru, explaining that Mosuke is sorry for keeping him waiting for six hundred years. He couldn’t show his face after that long. Amidamaru understands and can finally rest in peace.

As Amidamaru is ascending to the next realm, he witnesses Ryu of the Wooden Sword start a fight with Yoh. Amidamaru comes to the rescue allowing Yoh to channel him and defeated Ryu. Amidamaru decided to stick with Yoh after all.

EPISODE THREE: ANOTHER SHAMAN
As Manta is walking home from cram school, he sees a second shaman perched on top of a building. When he tells Yoh this, Yoh doesn’t seem all that concerned, although he does admit he hasn’t been training much lately. He’s currently doing some type of exercise to “beat the sun”, but passes out from the heat. Later, he shares some ice cream with Amidamaru and announces to Manta that they are friends now.

As Manta is walking alone that night, he again meets the other shaman, known as Tao Ren. He mumbles something about the stars being the lights that guide us. Those that can’t see the light stray into darkness. He steps out into traffic, and a truck almost hits him. At the last instant, he calls forth his spirit, Bason, who comes out and slices the truck in half with his sword. Tao Ren says that there can be only one Shaman King.

Yoh has never heard of Tao Ren, although Amidamaru says that his spirit seems to be that of a Chinese warrior and he’d like to fight it. Yoh and Tao Ren finally meet while crossing the street. Tao Ren believes that spirits are to be used as tools to make the shaman more powerful. Yoh is horrified that Tao Ren could think of spirits like that and tells him to rephrase his wording. Tao Ren just laughs and walks away.

Later that night, Ryu and his gang meet Tao Ren, who tells them they are in his way. They attack, but Tao Ren is far too powerful for them all. Yoh steps in and begins his first battle with Tao Ren. The battle has Yoh calling forth Amidamaru into “Spirit Ball Mode” in which he can insert Amidamaru inside his body to harness his powers. They fight for a while, but it is obvious that Tao Ren is more powerful. He performs his final attack, the "Slash Dance", which is struck down by Amidamaru. Tao Ren then powers up to "Perfect Possession", thus being able to utilize all 100% of his spirit’s powers and attack again with his "Slash Dance". This time he hits Yoh and knocks him down.

EPISODE FOUR: HYOI 100%
Having lost the battle with Tao Ren, Yoh lies in a hospital bed with a bandaged shoulder. Amidamaru sits by him, ashamed that he couldn't do more to stop Tao Ren's attacks. Yoh tries to cheer him up.

Ryu and his boys sit in the waiting room chatting with Manta. They were the ones to save Yoh after the final "Slash Dance" - rescuing Yoh on their bikes before he was killed.

Amidamaru and Manta asks about the Shaman King and why Tao Ren wants to be him so badly. Yoh explains a legend that his grandfather told him ten years ago. At that time, Yoh was a young kid who didn’t want to be a shaman, so he didn’t train very hard. He spent most of his days listening to music and living a relaxing life. His grandfather got really mad at him because after four years of training, the boy still couldn’t summon an earth spirit. Convinced Yoh was a failure, he told him the story of the Shaman King. No matter how much civilization develops, humans will never understand everything about the earth. As time passed, humans forgot about the spirits and acted on their own desires. No one knows how the deeds of humans will affect the earth. The shamans must communicate with the spirits. Those that master the ways of the shaman will be able to communicate directly with the King of Spirits, what some call God. Those shamans act as messengers to the world to keep harmony and deter people from acting from selfish desires which lead them towards a path of destruction. The shaman that will become one with the King of Spirits will become known as The Savior, or the Shaman King. Yoh trained hard after that because he believed if he became the Shaman King, he could live a lazy life.

Meanwhile, Tao Ren makes his way to the hospital. He must become the Shaman King at all costs to restore the Tao family's reputation. Tao Ren explains that when a spirit merges with a Shaman, there is one body but two wills. Therefore, the only way to use 100% of the spirit’s power is to use the spirit as a tool. He hits Yoh and sends him flying backwards, taunting him that when he dies, he will gain control of Amidamaru. Yoh stops and tells Amidamaru to go to the next world after Mosuke so he won’t become Tao Ren’s spirit. Amidamaru refuses to abandon his master and when Tao Ren attacks, they are able to repel and block his attacks. Yoh is now at 100%, when both his and Amidamaru's wills are one. With that newly released power, he uses his Amidaryu Gokoujin to end the battle. Both shamans collapse. Manta runs to Yoh's side. When he looks over, Tao Ren is gone.

EPISODE FIVE: A SHAMAN WHO IS MATURE FOR HER AGE
As Yoh is recovering at the hospital, his fiancée, Anna, shows up unexpectedly. Horrified, Yoh admits to his friends that every memory he has of her since childhood leaves him in tears by the end. Regardless, Anna's goal is to live an easy life as the wife of the Shaman King. Therefore, she'll train Yoh herself. As they speak, shamans from all over the world are gathering in Tokyo to determine who will become the Shaman King, the savior who will lead the world out of chaos.

Anna proves to be a tyrant at training. She has prepared a hefty regimen that includes running fifty kilometres a day with weights, doing sit ups, and lifting weights. She even keeps Amidamaru tied up so he can't help Yoh, and has her own spirit watching over Yoh in case he slacks off. But Yoh's not doing this solely for Anna - he owes it to Amidamaru. He must train to make his shaman powers more powerful.

Meanwhile, Tao Ren’s elder sister has come to town and she’s ready to take on the boy that beat her little brother. She summons three of her zombies to attack Yoh, but he finds he's improved significantly through training and can easily beat them with Amidamaru.

After the battle, Amidamaru complements Yoh on becoming stronger, while Anna hands him more weights. Yoh's got a long way to go before becoming the Shaman King.

EPISODE SIX: KUNG FU MASTER
Ren's elder sister mocks her little brother - Yoh has proven to be too much for him, so she'll summon her own spirits to take care of him.

Meanwhile, Yoh's still pushing himself through Anna's intense training. As he runs and Manta rides his bike beside him, Yoh explains that this is good for him - the more he trains, the easier fighting with Amidamaru will become.

Suddenly, Manta sees a poster of an upcoming movie - Pai Long Revival: Fist of Anger - starring his idol, kung fu master Li Pailong, who fights alone against evil. Pailong has a superhuman body and can take on anyone! Yoh is less than enthusiastic about the movie and quizzes his friend about why he wants Yoh to see this movie so badly. Manta admits he wants to share the things he likes with his new friend.

At home, Anna refuses to give them any money to see the movie and then chastises Manta for being weak. Only the weak admire those stronger than themselves. Manta explains that long ago, Li Pailong died but his body was never found. Even now, the circumstances surrounding his death remain a mystery. After some convincing, Anna finally allows them to go, but on one condition - that she come too.

After the movie, Yoh and Amidamaru discusses how cool it was, but their fun is soon interrupted by Ren's sister's Kyonshi (frozen corpse). Together, Yoh and Amidamaru take out the corpse, but soon, Ren's sister appears before them. She's Tao Jun, a Spellcaster (a type of shaman that can control zombies through paper talismans aka. puppeteers of the dead), and wants Amidamaru for her little brother.

Suddenly, she calls her main zombie, who is none other than Li Pailong. He has a paper talisman attached to his head. Again, she asks for Amidamaru. Yoh informs her that Amidamaru is his friend, and therefore, he won’t trade him off like an item.

Li Pailong attacks with his specialty, Nunchuku, which throws Yoh back. Tao Jun explains that spellcasters control the main spirits within the spirit’s own body while they control them. That way they can always be at 100% Possesion with their spirits. Yoh tries to attack but again is countered. Again, she asks Yoh for Amidamaru. He again refuses. She then commands Li Pailong to attack until Yoh is dead. Li Pailong performs Hojankyaku, which sends Yoh falling to the ground. He then does Jonenkyaku to add to the impact as Yoh hits the ground. Manta is flipping out about how his idol, Li Pailong, could be used as a tool for evil. Anna tells him that because the shaman controls the spirit, the spirit’s will is meaningless, so his body must act in accordance with the shaman’s will. Therefore, it is not Li Pailong that is the bad guy, but Tao Jun. Li Pailong apparently was killed 17 years ago to become Tao Jun’s zombie, a present from her father.

This gives Yoh the opportunity to recover slightly, and build more anger at how Tao Jun treats her spirit. He calls to Li Pailong, telling Tao Jun that even if she is able to control his body, she still can’t control his heart. That hesitation will be what Yoh can use to defeat them. As he speaks, Li Pailong sheds a tear, and Tao Jun is amazed that as a corpse, he can have feelings. Tao Jun commands Li Pailong to kill Yoh, but Yoh is determined to free Li Pailong’s spirit. Manta asks Anna to lend Yoh some power, but she refuses. This is another trial he must overcome. If he loses to an opponent like this, he is not destined to become the Shaman King. She does not want to become the wife of someone who is not successful.

Amidamaru asks for a sword with a grip to cut the paper talisman around Li Pailong's neck. Manta runs off as Tao Jun sets up for Li Pailong's final attack.

EPISODE SEVEN: PAILONG, FISTS OF FURY
As Yoh and Li Pailong continue fighting, Manta runs around looking for a wooden sword. Yoh is seriously getting his butt kicked. Manta sees a gang on motorbikes and ask to borrow their wooden sword. Ryu steps in to save Manta and after some fighting, gives Manta his wooden sword.

Tao Jun asks that even so close to death, friendship is still important to him. Yoh answers yes. Manta shows up with the wooden sword and Yoh and Amidamaru get ready to fight again. This time, Yoh is able to free Li Pailong with his "Vaccum Strike" attack which cuts off the paper talisman commanding Li Pailong.

Li Pailong regains control of his self and sees the poster. He’s been dead for 17 years. He gets really pissed and punches the glass, amazed that he cannot feel pain. He remembers being killed by the Tao family, and when Tao Jun tries to place another charm back on him, he destroys it and refuses to give her back control. He then attacks her and is about to strike with his Nunchuku, but Yoh steps in and saves her. He asks if revenge will really change anything. Yoh asks if there is anything that can be done to stop Li Pailong before he overexerts himself and becomes an evil spirit. Tao Jun says there is nothing she can do. The only thing that can stop him is someone who can defeat him. She’s given up. Anna reprimands her, asking her to take some responsibility since Li Pailong is her main spirit. She tries to think of someone, and then thinks of Pailong’s master, the man Pailong could never defeat, Shamon.

Anna is ready to try and uses her prayer beads to summoun Shamon from the Spirit World by using her powers as a Spirit Medium. She takes a trance state and Shamon is fused into Yoh’s body. He appears as an old man, but still, Pailong cannot touch Yoh. The master tells him that his moves are flowed because he acts out of fury. He needs to calm down. Suddenly Yoh does Shamon’s "Shadow Fist" and knocks Pailong down. The master tells him to abandon his fury. Pailong asks why should he? He’s lost everything. The master replies that when he has lost everything, he won’t be able to feel anything. He feels because his devotion to Daodan Do remains in his heart. Pailong attacks out. The master tries to make him understand that if he lets his emotions show forth so openly, his opponents can easily judge his next move. Pailong won’t listen. The master has no choice but to perform the Shadow Fist Succession Technique, Sou Jyu Ken! Pailong falls to the ground. His Nunchuki break as the seal on Pailong is released and he returns to his true self.

Realizing what just happened, Pailong is very apologetic for bringing his master the whole way here to calm him down. The master explains that he was saved because of Yoh. Yoh fought to restore him to his former self. He then explains that his martial art, Daodan Do, should be used to save others, not to save himself. That’s how he became a hero to so many people in the world. Pailong doesn’t know what to say.

Tao Jun admits that she may have been wrong about Pailong and particularly about Yoh. He really is a good person. Anna is like of course he is, he’s my fiancée. Tao Jun walks away. She doesn’t have the right to use Pailong. Before she goes, Pailong asks her to continue as her spirit. He vows never to give into fury again. She agrees, but without the charm this time. Ryu is all impressed that shamans can be so cool!

CHAPTER EIGHT: SHAMAN LIFE
Ryu and his gang sits in a restaurant. He has decided - he will become a Shaman. Ryu asks Yoh to become his master and train him to become a Shaman. Anna tells him okay, so long as he passes the test - cooking. Ryu passes Anna's test and he can start work immediately. Anna gives Ryu his training schedule. It appears to be a list of household chores. He is satisfied with the list, believing that taking care of the master is a significant part of the training. Ryu observes Yoh training; lifting weights and running. He bids Yoh a good run.

Ren and his sister exchanged words about Pailong. He will carry out their revenge. She answers that they are finished. They walk into their apartment to find Gei Yin, a girl with blue hair, another member of the Tao family. Gei Yin has come to make sure that Ren becomes Shaman King at any cost. She has decided that she will be the one to dispose of Asakura Yoh for her. Tao Jun will have nothing of it and asks her to leave. Gei Yin refuses. Tao Jun calls forth Pailong and Gin Yin calls Yugai, informing Tao Jun that Tao En's commands are absolute. Yugai is able to perceive all of Pailong’s moves and soon has a knife to his throat. Ren threatens Gei Yin that it is enough. He doesn’t care what she does, but if she hurts his sister, he won’t forgive her. He asks her to leave.

Ryu confronts Yoh about his laziness. He has heard that there will be a bunch of shamans like Ren gathering, and if Yoh doesn’t train harder, he fears he will not be able to beat them. Suddenly, Gei Yin appears and has Yugai attack Yoh. Yugai is able to wrap a wire around Yoh’s neck. Ryu steps in and strikes Yugai. It has no effect on Yugai other than to release the wire around Yoh’s neck. Yoh calls Amidamaru and Ryu throws him his wooden sword. The two fight Yugai with her wire whip thing. Suddenly, Yugai uses illusions to replicate herself several times to surround Yoh. He calms down to see through the illusion and strikes the real Yugai.

Yugai isn’t finished, however, and soon has a smoke screen up. The smoke apparently is made up of a paralysis substance because Yoh’s body starts going numb. She starts throwing knives at him, which he is barely able to dodge. Manta and Ryu lie by the side of the road unable to move. Luckily, Amidamaru isn’t effected by the numbness and blocks all the knife attacks. They then perform the "Vaccum Strike" that hits Yugai as she floats in the air. She explodes. Gei Yin stares in amazement and then walks away defeated.

EPISODE NINE: THE BOY FROM THE NORTH
As Yoh and Manta walks home, they notice a snowman in the middle of the road. They think that it's kind of weird for a snowman to be around in the middle of summer. There is a boy lying by a light post, not moving. Yoh starts making fun of the guy's hairstyle and going through his stuff. The person awakens and Yoh is thrilled. They take the boy back to their house. After dinner, the boy meets Tamegoro, the family head of the previous owners of the house and is completely startled. Manta is impressed that the boy can also see spirits.

The boy introduces himself as Horo Horo. Ryu, Yoh, and Manta introduce themselves and the boy goes crazy and grabs Manta calling him Kururu. He’s wanted to see him. Where has he been? After the incident, they sit calmly again. Manta asks if he’s come from Ainu. Horo Horo affirms this. He is a member of the proud Ainu tribe who lives with Mother Nature in the north. He has something he must do in Tokyo, but when he was there, his belongings were stolen. He looked for a long time for his belongings but grew hungry and now is in this place. Yoh offers Horo Horo a place to stay, but Anna barges into the room and interjects. If he wants to stay here, he must obey her orders. He agrees to it, and soon learns what that means.

Horo Horo is obsessed with the fact that Anna and Yoh are engaged. He doesn’t even have a girl friend yet, but he really doesn’t want a violent one like Anna. When she leaves, Yoh asks him if he’s ready to search for his belongings. They searched in vain. As they sit on a bench, frustrated and hot, Horo Horo notices a lone flower growing by the street. He feels sorry for it. The Koro Pokkuru are spirits that were thought to be living under coltsfoot in the northern lands. They lived together with Horo Horo’s people, as his people lived in harmony with nature. He believes that humans must be in balance with nature. To be born with water, cultivate through wind, be respectful to fire, and return to the earth. But then city life destroyed nature. The Koro Pokkuru are losing their habitat. This really upsets him. His dream, and the reason he came to Tokyo, is to create a vast land filled with coltsfoot. Yoh and Manta are slightly underwhelmed by this great dream of his. Manta doesn’t believe that even if he was able to go to Tokyo he’d be able to fulfill that.

The next day, Anna has lots of training for them to be doing. She’s especially hard on Horo Horo. Yoh eventually asks what’s up with that. Anna calmly informs them that they shouldn’t believe everything he’s told them. He’s actually a shaman. There are two reasons why a shaman would be in Tokyo now - to enter the Shaman Fight in Tokyo or perhaps to destroy the contestants. They suspect that Horo Horo is here to take out Yoh. Yoh says he and Amidamaru knew it all along. Amidamaru couldn’t confirm the main spirit’s form, though. Yoh still believes that Horo Horo is a good guy.

Ryu informs them that Horo Horo no longer there. He’s outside with the zombies of the Tao Family. Yoh and Amidamaru prepared for battle as well, and defeated the zombies pretty easily. Horo Horo is so surprised that Yoh is a shaman that he lost his Spirit Possession. Horo Horo’s main spirit is Kororo of the Koro Pokkuru (a very small girl with a pink hat). The two fight together. Horo Horo fights on a snowboard and runs over the zombies. His attack, the "Imperial Ice Formation", shoots ice shaped sword blades at the enemy. The enemies are encased in ice. Anna and Ryu watched in amazement. Ryu is fascinated that all shamans can be as strong as Yoh.

After the fight, Horo Horo apologizes for getting them involved. He suspects that these are the guys that stole his belongings. He followed them to Yoh’s house. Yoh and Anna explains to him that actually, these were just henchmen of the Tao family and that really, they’ve been after Yoh for awhile. They have nothing to do with Horo Horo. He was the one who got involved with them. Alarmed, Horo Horo then asks who would have stolen his belongings? They find them at the police station. As he walks away, he asks Yoh to meet him again at the Shaman Fight in Tokyo.

When they get home, they find that Horo Horo has decided to take up residence with them for the next couple of days until the tournament.

EPISODE TEN: FATE OF SIX HUNDRED YEARS
Yoh and Manta arrived back home from training, completely tired. Anna greets them angrily as they're late. She’s hungry and Ryu isn’t there. Ryu has given up all hope of becoming a shaman. Fortunately, one of his gang members named Muscle Punch, has a solution - the "Best Place". The Best Place is a place where people embarked on a journey to find their true purpose in life; a place that will accept them. Their new "Best Place" is a thirty minutes bus ride away; the Funbari Bowling Centre. The place was abandoned a while ago, but Muscle Punch was able to play with the wiring to get it to work again. Ryu is unamused. Muscle Punch asks what’s wrong with it. He replies that it’s too far from the train station and there are no shops around. The Best Place isn’t a playground. It is a place where they can rest their hearts and feel at ease. Muscle Punch understands and they abandon their temporary Best Place. However, before they go, they play a couple of games of bowling.

At home, Anna is not impressed with Manta and Yoh’s cooking. She has them remake dinner again. On their way to get more ingredients, they stumbled upon Ryu at the bowling alley. Ryu sees them coming and hides in the women’s bathroom, ashamed of giving up his dreams of becoming a shaman. Manta thinks things feel strangely in the bowling alley. Amidamaru feels it too. An abnormal spirit out for vengeance seems to roam here. Yoh decides he should ask Anna about the evil spirits. Suddenly, they realize they were supposed to buy ingredients for Anna and run off hoping the store is still open.

Ryu is alone in the women’s bathroom. A lizard tells him that he’s waited 600 years to find someone he could reach. The lizard transforms into an ape inside the mirror and attacks him. Ryo screams. When is gang members get there, the spirit has already taken possession of Ryu. He asks why must they leave? His gang can’t figure out why Ryu is behaving so differently and demanding alcohol and snacks. Unfortunately, they’re too young for alcohol, so cola will have to do. Ryu then remembers he wants the sword; Harusame, the sword Amidamaru used.

After 25 tries, Anna finally accepted their cooking. While Yoh handled the dishes, Anna researched the haunted area by the bowling area. It used to be a hideout for thieves that stole food from the locals. Their leader was Tokageroh.

Ryu and gang set out looking for the Harusame. They break into the museum to find it. Meanwhile, Muscle Punch tries to persuade him from stealing. Why would Ryu of the Wooden Sword need a real sword? He reveals that he is the thief, Tokageroh, and stealing is what he does. He stabbed Muscle punch in the leg. Manta overhears Ryu and then sees the spirit that has possessed him. Ryu threatens them that the next person will not get off so easily. Tokageroh grabs Amidamaru’s old sword, intent on killing him with his own sword - that will be his revenge. Manta runs as fast as he can to warn Yoh, but Ryu jumps out the window and blocks his path. Manta becomes his hostage.

Yoh, Amidamaru , and Anna all felt Manta screaming. Anna called it a message from the stars, or as the Japanese would say, ‘a notice from the insects.’ Suddently, Ryu shows up with Manta as hostage. Anna senses that Ryu is being possessed by something. She tells him to reveal his true nature, and the thief, Tokageroh, appears. He seeks revenge.

EPISODE ELEVEN: RAIN THAT FALLS IN SPRING
Anna taunts the spirit in Ryu to show his face. He complies, introducing himself as the great thief Tokageroh. He will have his revenge after 600 years. Anna replies that Tokageroh is a stupid name. He tells her to watch herself and grasps Manta tighter. He says he has come to take revenge on Amidamaru for killing him 600 years ago with this sword. Anna replies that it’s probably a wooden sword. He again threatens Amidamaru, but Amidamaru doesn’t remember who Tokageroh is or if he killed him - he’s killed many evil men. Anna accuses him of being weak and asks how he can possibly expect to beat Amidamaru now as he's already a spirit. Tokageroh again demands that Yoh and Amidamaru merge as one as he threatens Manta. Anna steps in refusing to let Yoh fight. He will one day be the Shaman King and she will then be his wife. She refuses to let him be killed by the likes of Tokageroh.

Tired of playing, Tokageroh readies himself to slash down at Manta. Anna throws Yoh a wooden sword and he and Amidamaru merge as he runs forth to save Manta. Anna suddenly yells for him to stop as Manta warns that Tokageroh has the sword, Harusame. Yoh’s wooden sword isn’t too much of a challenge for the Harusame, which Tokageroh is all too quick to brag that he stole. Amidamaru is kind of pissed that Tokageroh stole his old sword just to take revenge, and in that split second, Tokageroh takes advantage of Amidamaru’s lack of concentration. He performs Tokage Style! Mukugii. Yoh is tossed backwards as his headphones are split off his head.

Observing from the side lines, Anna is ready to offer advice. There are three ways to save Manta. First, Amidamaru can let Tokageroh kill Yoh as he wishes. Second, he can destroy the body that he has possessed until he can no longer move. However, in the process, Ryu may die. The third option is to break his weapon; Harusame. Amidamaru isn’t too keen on breaking Harusame. He has a flashback to himself as a small boy chasing thieves off his farm. Again he breaks his sword, citing that it is too weak, and requests that Mosuke craft a better sword for him. Mosuke tells him that if he wants a sword so badly, he can steal one off a samurai. He needs good steal to make a better sword. However, Mosuke believed that Amidamaru would one day become a fine swordsman and so he crafts him a sword from his father’s knife. They name it Harusame or Rain of Spring.

Anna can tell that Amidamaru isn’t about to break the sword. She explains that even if there is a slight bit of doubt, they won’t be able to attack as full force are required to break the sword and their attack will be easily dodged. They will definitely be hit by a counterattack.

Tokageroh decides that he’s tired of waiting and counts to three. He strikes, but his gang restrains him in time to get Manta away. They asks Ryu what has happened to him that he could possibly make him want to kill another person. They recall all the kind moments they spent with Ryu. Yoh asks Tokageroh to give up now that he no longer has a hostage. He counters by pointing the sword at himself and declaring Ryu his hostage.

At this point, Amidamaru declares that he has no more doubts. Sometimes you need to make sacrifices to save friends. They attacked, breaking the sword. Tokageroh can’t believe it. Amidamaru sheds a tear but believes that friendship is more important than the sword. It starts to rain.

They ask Tokageroh to finally give up. He refuses. He’s done too many terrible things to return to go on living, but his mother told him to survive no matter what. He reaches for the broken sword but becomes paralyzed. Apparently, two souls in one body puts a lot of stress on it, especially since Tokageroh entered forcefully and Ryu hasn’t been through proper shaman training. She starts to send him back to the afterlife, but Yoh stops him. Yoh asks Tokageroh if he really wants a friend, he’ll be his friend. He offers his body to Tokageroh as an offering of friendship. Amidamaru refuses to let him, but Yoh sends him away. Tokageroh enters Yoh’s body, still diabolical and ready to kill Yoh for his stupidity. Anna is really upset and drops to her knees in tears.

However, Amidamaru confronts Tokageroh about Yoh. He offers him a place of peace, where he can have friends. Tokageroh realizes the selfless act and calms down. Manta is amazed that Yoh could have known this. Anna retorts that of course he didn’t plan it that way… Yoh is just able to give without thinking of himself. She starts emitting flames and mutters that they will have the Special Menu from now on. Manta comments that she’s scary.

EPISODE TWELVE: THE STAR THAT SIGNALS THE BEGINNING
Ryu’s buddies sit by him as he sleeps. Anna has informed them that Ryu will probably sleep for another week.

After commanding Manta to get breakfast ready, Anna asks Yoh what he thinks about how a weak spirit such as Tokageroh could completely take over Ryu's body. At that point, Horo Horo makes his entrance from the bathroom. Anna is pissed that he’s still there and storms off.

Ryu awakens and apologizes for being weak and having an impure heart. Since he was young, he has been a loner searching for his meaning in life, but he’s always had a void in his heart that allowed Tokageroh to take over his body. He starts apologizing profusely to Yoh, Amidamaru, and Anna, specifically to Amidamaru for causing him to break his own sword to save him. Yoh is amazed that Ryu can see Amidamaru and he and Anna deduced that because Ryu was possessed, his shaman ability has now been awakened. Everyone is amazed. Ryu is still stuck on the fact that he has broken Amidamaru’s sword. To make up for it, he cleans the house and takes on the cooking. His friends hypothesize that while Ryu may try to present a happy face, deep down, nothing will repay his debt to Amidamaru for the sword. They begin talking about finding the "Best Place" again.

Ryu sits alone. Amidamaru confronts him and asks him to forget the sword. Ryu can’t. Amidamaru can’t either and mourns the sword in a separate room.

Ryu’s friends decide to repair his bike to hopefully make Ryu happy. Unfortunately, they have no money. They decide that since they can’t fix the bike, they will bring girls to the place. Yoh and Anna wonder about the spirits. They haven’t felt them since last night. Elsewhere in town, Ryu’s friends try and failed at picking up girls. They decide to dress up as girls to make him feel better.

Anna and Yoh decided that in order to make everyone feel better, they will summon Mosuke. Anna will put Mosuke in Ryu so Amidamaru can talk to him. Ryu gives Anna permission to call Mosuke into his body. Immediately, Mosuke strikes out accusing Amidamaru of breaking yet another of his swords. Amidamaru strikes back, having waited 600 years. They hit each other and then settled down as friends. Through Ryu’s body, Mosuke repairs the sword and they decide to return it to the museum.

Above, a man throws down three feathers which change into monsters. Yoh laughs and comments that those are perfect beings to test the new Harusame on. Anna throws the sword to Manta who tries to open the sheath but finds nothing. Yoh and Amidamaru merge and a spiritual blade appears. Anna explains that when Amidamaru is merged with Yoh and holding the sword, it embodies Mosuke’s will and a spiritual blade forms. It is required for the Shaman Fight. They make short work of the monsters and a feather lands at Horo Horo’s feet. Anna explains that it is Uncle Mikihisa's guardian; Yoh’s father. He comments that Yoh is improving, but this is only the beginning.

Ryu rides off on his bike vowing to become a shaman no matter what. Suddenly, a blue ball of light flies over his head. A voice tells him that it is Lago. Yoh’s guardian stops him and asks if he wants to become a Shaman. Yoh and Anna observes the Lago star as well. They call it the legendary star which signals the new beginning. In one of the Esoteric Buddhist stories, Lago is a mysterious star that represents total destruction. It is said to near Earth with the star Keito once every 500 years bringing great destruction. Manta is curious that he has never heard of it. Anna replies of course he hasn’t because a savior has appeared each time and changed the fate from great destruction to great revival. That savior is the Shaman King. The appearance of the stars designate that it is now time once again to begin the Shaman Fight.

EPISODE THIRTEEN: OVER SOUL
A woman sits by a fire apparently reading a prophecy from the flames. When the two stars fall over the land, the king shall arise and reveal the path. Now, the circle that links the stars with the land and humanity welcomes new growth. As the people of the Patch, it is their duty to watch over this. Ten followers listen to the woman speak and vowed to do as the Great Spirit wishes.

Horo Horo screams for everyone to wake up at 5 AM. Yoh is exhausted and not ready for breakfast. Horo Horo tells him that people who waste food will go to hell.

Yoh still is his relaxed self, even though the Lago star had already appeared. He doesn’t see a point to be getting worried over the Shaman Fight. Manta can’t understand how he can stay so calm. Amidamaru is with Manta on the training thing. Suddenly, one of the Patch followers flies up behind Yoh and asks if the Shaman Fight meant life or death, would he still choose to enter? If he would, they will meet again.

Yoh, Anna, and Horo Horo stared up at the stars wondering what the fight will be like. Amidamaru questions his own strength as a spirit. Can they still win? Yoh laughs and tells him not to worry. It is silly to question the unknown. A shooting star passes overhead; a calling.

Yoh meets the Patch follower from earlier. He introduces himself as Silva, one of the ten official priests who have overseen the Shaman Fight since ancient times. He has come to test Yoh to see if he has the right to enter. All he needs to do is hit him with a clean strike. After getting into Spirit Possession, Yoh sends his "Vaccum Strike" charging towards Silva, but Silva easily defends. Silva then informs Yoh that he has ten minutes to get a hit in. Yoh attacks with his sword, but again, Silva blocks, reminding him that he can’t be touched with the Spirit Possession. His spirit is the turtle spirit, which has become Silva Shield; a spirit that protects him. Silva attacks Yoh with the spirit of the buffalo, Silva Horn and sends Yoh flying backwards. He then performs spirit of the coyote, Silva Tail, to strike Yoh, and Spirit of the Snake, Silva Rod to send a snake past him. Yoh tries Possession 120%, but that is blocked as well. Silva then flies into the sky with eagle wings.

Confused, Yoh and Amidamaru conversed as to how Shilva can use his spirits in a completely different manner than Yoh. He affirms that he does not use the Spirit Possession but materializes the spirits to shape them into form. With that he can fly with Silva Wing. The materialization ability for spirits is called Furyoku derived from Fu - spiritual and ryoku -power/strength. The eagle then taunts Yoh. Shilva hasn’t come to test Yoh’s samurai spirit, but his Shaman ability. Only Furyoku can beat Furyoku. He tells Yoh to use his mind over his body. The two continue their fight. Yoh is frustrated that he can’t figure out how Shilva materializes animals. Then he notices that all his spirits come from parts of animals - feather, horn, shell, jaw. Maybe that’s the key to materializing spirits. Yoh decides to try and Amidamaru lends him his power. At first, it looks like Spirit Possession, but Yoh apparently figured out that to materialize a spirit, he must put the spirit in a symbolic item. The symbol for the samurai is his sword. He has acquired the Oversoul.

One minute left. Silva now performs a spirit fusion to morph his spirits into a voltron like mech, which he calls Totem Pole Canon. He can now use his full power. If Yoh's Furyoku can withstand this, he can beat his Furyoku with one hit. However, that blow can kill him. Yoh refuses to give up, but would rather take his chances. Silva shoots with Totemic Soul Blast, but together, Yoh and Amidamaru catch the blast and send it back at Silva. Yoh kneels down, defeated. The blast didn’t touch Silva. He falls to the ground, exhausted from overusing his Furyoku. Silva is pleased with his blast, though, and his headband breaks in two as he admits that it did hit him. For his efforts, Yoh is given the Oracle Bell to enter the Shaman Fight. Yoh is absolutely ecstatic, and starts screaming, completely excited! The Oracle Bell will be how they communicate Shaman Fight information to him. It will also present the will of the Great Spirit, the all-knowing, most powerful spirit that only the Shaman King may inherit. It is the source of all the souls that have been watching since the beginning of the world - the King of Spirits.

The woman speaks again of how one boy showed a Furyoku far greater than that of ten priests. The boy didn’t even know the ‘Fu’ of Furyoku. However, the results of the Shaman Fight are always the will of the all-knowing, most powerful Great Spirit.

The Oracle Bell starts ringing and Yoh learns of his first opponent in the Shaman FIght Preliminary Match - Horo Horo.
